What’s the Deal with Peanut Milk?

Have you heard about the latest potential non-dairy nut milk? Food Navigator and Modern Farmer recently covered the idea of a peanut milk that might appear alongside other non-dairy beverages like soy milk, rice milk and almond milk.

National Peanut Board President and CEO Bob Parker said, “The peanut milk concept delivers 8 grams of plant-based protein per serving, which is comparable to dairy milk. It also has a smooth, slightly creamy mouth feel and taste similar to cow’s milk.”

For comparison, dairy milk has 8.5 grams of protein per 1 cup serving; peanut milk has 8 grams of protein; soy milk has 7 grams of protein; and almond milk has 1 gram of protein.

While peanut milk isn’t yet available at your local grocery store, State Bird Provisions restaurant in San Francisco makes World Peace Peanut Muscovado Milk and Chef JJ Johnson of The Cecil in Harlem makes a West African Peanut Punch cocktail with peanut milk. If you’re interested in trying peanut milk at home, Keegan, one of our staff members, shared his successful experience making a Bon Appetit recipe for peanut milk.
