The major findings of this study highlight the importance of developing cultivar-specific vigor parameters and maintaining high seed maturity in agronomic practices. Furthermore, the degree of differences between seed maturity classes differed between years, indicating that the impact of seed maturity is also highly subject to environmental interactions. Finally, it appears that SMM may induce similar responses to stress memory that exist in peanut, which brings up the importance of standardizing seed quality before stress memory studies or to consider this impact in breeding programs.
