4 Ways to Get Global for Better Breakfast Month

If you’re on autopilot in the mornings, breakfast can get repetitive and dull. Or maybe you skip breakfast all together because you can’t think of anything interesting to eat. To help you break out of your breakfast rut, here are some breakfast ideas from around the world to enjoy for Better Breakfast Month.

  1. For our neighbors to the north, breakfast is the most popular time to eat peanut butter.  Seventy-one percent of Canadian households report eating peanut butter at breakfast. (1) Add a swirl of peanut butter to your standard oatmeal or top pancakes, waffles or toast with it for an easy way to liven up the morning meal.
  2. In Jamaica, they enjoy a peanut porridge breakfast with oatmeal, peanuts, cornmeal and coconut milk. Try out this recipe.

  4. Across Asia, congee (pictured above), an overcooked rice dish, is a staple breakfast food. According to a Chicago Tribune article, congee is named differently depending on the region. “In China, it’s ‘jook’ or ‘juk,’ in Korea ‘juk’ and in Thailand ‘khao tom gung,’ … it’s ‘chao’ in Vietnam.” Whatever the name, this dish is always accompanied with flavorful ingredients such as pork, hot sauce, peanuts and egg yolk. It’s such to be an exciting, savory way to enjoy breakfast.
