JULY 10, 2015--ATLANTA – The National Peanut Board will set strategic direction for the FY-16 program of work and budget at its next quarterly board meeting Aug. 10-13, 2015, in Suffolk, Va. All meetings will take place at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, 110 W. Finney Ave., Suffolk, Va. 23434. Phone: (757) 925-1300.
The Board begins the planning process each year by assessing consumer attitudes and market conditions and setting strategic objectives to increase consumption of USA-grown peanuts. The National Peanut Board’s FY-16 begins Nov. 1, 2015 and ends Oct. 31, 2016.
“As an industry, we’re seeing positive trends, as well as marketing challenges, in increasing consumer demand for the crop we grow,” said Bob White, National Peanut Board chairman and Texas delegate. “Our agenda for this meeting includes the very best consumer research to enhance peanut demand and increase market opportunities. And we always discuss ways to improve production practices and invest in research priorities.”
On Tuesday afternoon, Board members will tour Amadas Industries, a leading manufacturer of advanced harvest systems for peanuts, followed by a dinner hosted by Birdsong Peanuts. On Wednesday evening, the Board will meet with members of Virginia Peanut Growers Association and North Carolina Peanut Growers Association for a Grower Listening Session, an information exchange between growers. The Listening Session takes place at Paul D. Camp Community College, Workforce Center, in Franklin, Va.
