4 Ways to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

The holiday season is right around the corner. For me the holidays are centered around exciting quality time with family and friends.  Sometimes there can be a lot of pressure to commit to the healthiest of habits, which really stifles the whole “tis’ the season to be jolly” idea. It’s hard to be “jolly” when you’re worried about failing your commitment to being healthy.

If this is what worries you, it’s time to flip your mindset! This is the best time to realize what it really means to be healthy. There are many different ways to be healthy and one of them is definitively choosing a balanced eating pattern. Try to make sure at least half of your plate is full of fruits/ or veggies and you will be good to go! By committing to balancing your plate during the holidays, you’ll be able to apply your new health goals to your life year around.

Here are some tips on how to stay healthy during the holidays. For me “healthy” is a relative term.  It depends on a combination of how you feel, and what you do, and how you nourish your body. Adding more plant-forward food options is very important to your body.  Peanuts are a great plant-forward addition to meals.  Peanuts provide you with 7 grams of protein per 1.0 ounce serving, and that is 7 grams of satisfaction!

4 ways to stay Healthy During the Holidays
  1. Choose Joy

Between preparing meals and entertaining your family/friends, try to find time to do things that make you happy! This can include listening to your favorite song, taking a walk with friends, canvas painting, or individual relaxation etc.

  1. Be Present

Enjoy the time you have with your family. As we get older, time starts to slip away faster than usual. Then all of a sudden you start to notice just how important it is to cherish even the small moments.  You never know how a great conversation can impact your current relationships.

  1. Stay Grounded

Take time for your mind. Whether that be setting aside time to journal, talk to your therapist, or practice mindful meditation. Find ways to connect with what allows you to stay centered.

  1. Nourish Lovingly

You only have one body, so it’s very important to listen to how you feel. By doing this you can take the steps to feel awesome on the inside and the outside. Enjoy your favorite foods in moderation this holiday season. By nourishing yourself with the best food you’ll have the energy to take on this upcoming holiday season with ease!

Remember the quality of your health is based on a holistic view of who you are (mind, body, & soul). Take a moment during this upcoming holiday season to be thankful for where you are and reflect on what you can do to choose joy, be present, and stay grounded this holiday season!
