The objective of this research was to compare twin-row and single-row production systems and seeding rate effects to two Spanish market types of peanut. The research team compiled the data at three irrigated field studies— two in Terry County and one in Frio County.

At the Monty Henson Farm in Terry County, treatments included single and twin-rows with cultivars including: high oleic Spanish market types Tamspan 90 and Tx962120; high-oleic runner market types Flavor Runner 458, Sunoleic 97R and Tx977006; and Virginia market type NC7.

At the Andy Timmons Farm in Terry County, treatments included single and twin rows, with two seeding rates (six and 10 seed/ft.) utilized for the twin rows. The Spanish cultivars included Tamspan 90 and high-oleic Tx962120. The seed was planted on May 1, 2001, and canopy measurements were collected July 27 of that year.

At the Joe Weir Farm in Atascosa County, treatments included single and twin rows, with two seeding rates (six and 10 seed/ft.) utilized for the twin row Spanish. The Spanish cultivars included Tamspan 90, high-oleic varieties Tx962120 and Tx977006, AT-108, Tamrun 96, and Georgia Green runner market types. The seed was planted on June 4, 2001.

All studies produced good stands and were judiciously irrigated throughout the season. Vegetative growth was near normal, but reproductive development was hampered by the hot, dry conditions produced by the 2001 drought. As of the time of the report, all study sites had been harvested and, while grading was still in progress, preliminary data analysis indicated that yields had been very good and that the twin row pattern had produced positive results.
