Our information collection practices are described below. We
urge kids to check with their parents before entering information
on any web site and we urge parents to discuss with their kids
restrictions regarding the online release of personal information
to anyone they don't know.
Children’s Privacy
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA")
requires that we inform parents and legal guardians about how
we collect, use, and disclose personal information from children
under 13 years of age; and that we obtain the consent of parents
and guardians in order for children under 13 years of age to
use certain features of our Web sites. Below we explain how
we do that for these "kids." Also, when we use the
term "parent" below, we mean to include legal guardians.
The National Peanut Board Site does not knowingly solicit or
collect personally identifiable information online from children
under the age of 13 without prior verifiable parental consent.
If the National Peanut Board learns that a child under the
age of 13 has submitted personally identifiable information
online, in contravention of these measures, we will take all
reasonable measures to delete such information from our databases
and to not use such information for any purpose (except where
necessary to protect the safety of the child or others as required
by law).
Personal information collected from children is used solely
by The National Peanut Board or other entities that provide
technical, fulfillment or other services to The National Peanut
Board. For example, such entities may provide services, such
as, improving our web sites, fulfilling requests or administering
sweepstakes. This personal information is not sold or transferred
to third parties.
We urge parents to regularly monitor and supervise their children's
on-line activities.
What Information Is Collected?
It is our policy to create website content that requires minimum collection of
information from our visitors. Generally, we limit our collection of information
from kids to what is known as nonpersonally identifiable information (e.g., screen
name, birthday, gender, state, zip code and country of residence). This information
is collected so kids can participate in activities without giving unnecessary
personal information. From time to time, however, we may request limited personally
identifiable information (e.g., child's email address and/or email address of
parent or third party), as explained below, in order to conduct online contests
or sweepstakes or offer other online activities. The National Peanut Board does
not condition a child's participation in any of our online activities on the
disclosure of more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in
the activity.
Contests and Sweepstakes
The National Peanut Board occasionally offers contests and sweepstakes, which
may be entered online. To participate in a contest or sweepstakes, a child may
be asked to provide his or her name and email address. Sometimes, when we conduct
contests or sweepstakes that may involve more than a one-time contact, we ask
additionally for the email address of his or her parent. In such types of contests
or sweepstakes, we send the child's parent an email within two business days
informing him or her of the child's entry and to give the parent the option to
have the child's entry deleted. All the information collected by the National
Peanut Board is securely maintained and used only for the purpose of conducting
the contest or sweepstakes. Once the contest or sweepstakes is finished, we then
delete any personal information collected. The information collected in a National
Peanut Board sweepstakes may be passed to a fulfillment house, which may use
the information to help run the contest or sweepstakes and may not use it for
other purposes and has agreed to maintain the confidentiality of such information.
Use of Information
The National Peanut Board uses or may use personally identifiable information
that kids provide for conducting contests or sweepstakes. The National Peanut
Board does not disclose to third parties personally identifiable information
that children provide, except from time to time, we may transfer, disclose
or share such information with third parties who may be engaged by us specifically
to handle and deliver certain online activities (e.g., conducting contests and
sweepstakes). Such third parties have access to personal information needed to
perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes. Finally, we may
also disclose personally identifiable information to third parties in order to
comply with law or requests by law enforcement agencies, to enforce our Terms
and Conditions or to protect the rights, property or safety of our web site,
users of our web site and others.
Information Received for Purchases from the National Peanut Board
We collect certain relevant information from adults 18 years of age or older
for the sole purpose of fulfilling orders made on our web site and such information
will not be sold, shared or disclosed to third parties, except that we may transfer,
disclose or share such information with third parties who may be engaged by us
specifically to handle and deliver such orders. Such third parties have access
to personal information needed to perform their functions, but must maintain
its confidentiality and may not use it for other purposes.
Cookies and Log Data
Cookies are information files that your web browser places on the hard drive
of your computer when you visit a web site. Cookies cannot damage user files,
nor can they read information from a user's hard drive. Cookies allow web sites
to "remember" users activities on a web site as well as users visits
to a site. We may use cookies to determine the number of unique visitors to our
website over a given period and to remember user screen names so that the need
for multiple log ins is eliminated. We will not store any personal information
into cookies nor will we link or combine information collected through cookies
to any personal information that kids submit online when participating in our
activities. You can, of course, disable cookies on your computer by indicating
this in the preferences or options menus in your browser. Log data may be collected
on web servers both within the National Peanut Board's control and under the
control of the National Peanut Board's third-party service provider, who is required
to maintain such data on a confidential basis, and may supply the National Peanut
Board with aggregate information about the number of visits to different pages
on our site. The National Peanut Board uses such aggregate information to improve
access to our content based on our visitors' browsers and operating system types
to make our content available to as many people as possible. We do not link the
log data collected to the personal information that children submit online
when participating in our activities.
Parental Access
Our goal is to help parents ensure that their children have a safe and fun
online experience. Parents can contact us to review any identifiable information
collected about their child, have this information deleted, and/or request that
there be no further collection or use of their child's information. The National
Peanut Board takes steps to verify the identity of anyone requesting information
about a child and to ensure that the person is in fact the child's parent or
legal guardian.
